Microsoft on Tuesday launched Windows 10 S, its latest version of windows 10, designed for education. Just like the Google Chrome OS, The Windows 10 S is super locked as you are only allowed to run apps from the Microsoft Store.
Windows 10 S was inspired by students and teachers, and it’s the best Windows ever for schools. It’s also a great choice for any Windows customer looking for consistent performance, advanced security and quick log on time.
Performance and Security
Microsoft claims that there will be an improvement on its performance and security of the Windows 10 S. With the Windows Store restriction, only apps found on the Microsoft Store can run as to help prevent malwares. There has also been an improvement on the first sign-in process that would help environment like schools.
Browser and Search
Windows 10 S users are forced to use the Microsoft Edge as it is locked as the default browser. So, when you click links from apps on the Windows 10 S, you will be forced into microsoft’s Edge. The is also a support for alternative browsers in the Windows Store.
Microsoft is also locking down Microsoft Edge to only work with Bing search engine in Windows 10 S.
Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro
If you are finding it frustrating using the Windows 10 S or you want more app install options that is not available in the Windows Store, With a fee of $49 you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and get access to desktop apps.
It is safe to say that Windows 10 S is a test for Microsoft to try and better secure and improve the experience of Windows.
